Here are some etiquette tips to ensure everyone has an enjoyable time at Japanese amusement arcades.
Show good manners and experience Japan’s amusement arcade culture for yourself!

You can enjoy amusement arcades without paying any entry fees.

At Japanese amusement arcades, you normally have to insert coins directly into the game machines to play on them. You can use the money exchange machine in the facility to exchange bills for coins.
*Depending on the location and game machine, electronic money and credit cards may also be accepted. Available payment methods differ depending on the location.

Children under the age of 16 may not enter at or after 6:00 PM. Children accompanied by a parent or guardian may enter up until 10:00 PM in certain cases. An ID may be required to verify your age.
*Restriction details differ depending on the prefecture.

You may play crane games back-to-back until you get a prize.
Other games have restrictions in place, such as requiring taking turns after a single play.
Refrain from playing these games nonstop and let the next person have their turn after you have had your chance to play.
Game machines are sometimes marked with information on any restrictions. If anything’s unclear, check with a staff member.

Do not strike, kick, or otherwise roughly handle the game machines.

GiGO permits people to take photos and videos on its premises.
*Be sure to keep other customers out of your photos and videos.
Photography and filming may be prohibited depending on the amusement arcade.
When at an amusement arcade other than GiGO, check with a staff member before taking photos and videos.

Drinking alcohol and smoking in amusement arcades may be allowed only in designated locations or outright prohibited. Check with a staff member for details.

Japanese crane games are tests of skill.
Aim, have a go at it, and get a prize using your skills. The feeling of accomplishment when you succeed is something else!
*If you’re having trouble, tell a staff member—they might even adjust a prize’s position for you.
*Acquired prizes cannot be exchanged for other prizes.

Depending on the facility, there are cases where photo sticker booths cannot be used solely by men.

Medals can be obtained by inserting cash into the dispenser in the facility.
Acquired medals cannot be exchanged for prizes or cash.
Also, medals cannot be brought off the premises.
Unused medals can be deposited or returned.
